ROBERT H. SCHIFFBAUER, passed away on January 1, 2022. Born to Henry and Anna (Elek) Schiffbauer on December 10, 1928, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Bob was the second of six children. Bob met his wife Catherine Janosik at the Melody Roller Skating Rink in Uniontown, and they married three years later in 1951 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cumberland, Maryland. Bob was proud of his time serving in the Army as a paratrooper assigned to the 11th Airborne and was fond of telling stories of cold weather training at Fort Drum, New York and training jumps at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Bob was honorably discharged in 1953, and they moved to Garfield Heights then Bedford, Ohio, where they bought their home on Belle Avenue and raised four children. Bob started working at Ford Motor Company where he stayed for more than 30 years. His family knew they’d get an earful if they visited in anything other than a Ford! Bob and Catherine enjoyed sitting on their porch swing and watching the birds. They also loved their visits to Hawaii and annual trip to Uniontown with their camper.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, parents, siblings Sonny and Kenny. Bob is survived by children Bobby (Diane) Schiffbauer, Brian (Laura) Schiffbauer, Bruce (Lynn) Schiffbauer, and Brenda (David) Sablotny; grandchildren Sara, Brian, Jr. (Jordan), Stephanie, Mike, Anna (Chelsea), Jay (Sarah), Liz (Melissa), Steven (Jamie), and Joseph; great-grandchildren Brynn, Eloise, and Beau; siblings Mary, Elsie, and Donnie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation Friday, January 7 at 9 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Church in Maple Heights, Ohio, with a funeral mass at 10 am. Burial to follow at 2 pm at Mount St. Macrina in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Brentwood Health Care Center for their kindness and diligent care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the USO or a cause near to your heart. (St. John Funeral Home of Bedford 440-232-1155).
