Dorothy P. Dougherty, lovingly known as Dorothy, Dot, or DD, passed away on April 9, 2024, in Macedonia, Ohio, at the age of 97. She was born on February 3, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a dedicated, caring, sociable individual who adored family, career, music and dogs. Dedicated to her worship of the Lord, Dorothy was a very talented pianist and soloist, sharing her musical gifts as the weekly Pianist and Organist at the First Baptist Church of Bedford and Bible Baptist Church of Bedford for 80 years. Dorothy started her career at Bedford Hospital and later joined BenVenue Laboratories in Bedford, where she served as the Director of Microbiology for 30 years before retiring. She is survived by her son Robert (Gayle) Dougherty of Northfield Center, OH, daughter Rebecca (Quinn) McGuire of Las Vegas, NV, three granddaughters: Heather (Brent) Calliger of Oregon, Sarah K Dougherty of California, and Megan L (Ted) Bedell of Lakewood OH., great-grandchildren: Logan and Paisley Calliger, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by her infant son Brian Charles Dougherty, loving parents Charles and Margaret Melichar of Cleveland OH, and husband of 65 years, Robert Dougherty. Friends and family will be received at ST. JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 923 BROADWAY AVE., BEDFORD (ONE MILE WEST OF THE FORBES-BROADWAY EXIT OF I-271 on Wed., April 17 from 3 – 7 P.M., where a Funeral Service will take place on Thurs., April 18 from 10:30 – 11:30 A.M. A committal service with final prayers will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations would be greatly appreciated in Dorothy’s name to the First Baptist Church of Bedford https://www.bedfordfirstbaptistohio.org/ or SPCA No-Kill Pet Shelter & Clinic in Parma, Ohio https://northeastohiospca.org/ Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the music she shared and the love she gave to those around her.
