ELIZABETH CHECKI  (nee Mayer), age 96, of Bedford, entered into rest on June 28, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence “ Larry”;  loving mother of Elizabeth (Joseph) Forgan, Garry (Joyce) Checki and Simone (Jerry) Ahmed; dearest grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 3; dear sister of Otto Mayer and Jacob Mayer, preceeded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.  Elizabeth spent her formative years in Landsberg am Lech, Germany, living through and surviving World War II from ages 16 to 21. After the war she emigrated to America. Elizabeth spent the rest of her life in Ohio, teaching all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to appreciate nature and a good bowl of liver spätzle soup. Elizabeth took pride in her German roots and loved to share her stories with anyone that would listen. Elizabeth was a small German lady with a big heart that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. After 60 years of marriage, Elizabeth and her husband Lawrence are once again dancing a polka together.  All services private.  (St. John Funeral Home of Bedford 440-232-1155)
