James J. Barbosky

James (Jim) J. Barbosky, age 81, passed away on May 1, 2024. Jim was a resident of Auburn Township, OH, where he lived with and was survived by his wife, Joan M. Barbosky (née Moran). He and Joan have two children: Laura Dyer (née Barbosky), married to Stephen Dyer, and Joseph Barbosky, married to Kim Barbosky (née Piteo). He is survived by his sister Geraldine Pitts (née Barbosky), married to the late William Pitts. With his passing, Jim has joined his sisters Patricia Zimmer (née Barbosky), married to the late Gene Zimmer; JoAnne Yarcusko (née Barbosky), married to Jerry Yarcusko; and Mary Ellen Barbosky. He and Joan have four grandchildren: Nathan Barbosky, Nolan Barbosky, Ava Barbosky, and Fitz Dyer. 

Jim was a hard-working, devoted father and always took care of his family. He served in the U.S. Air Force. After he received an honorable discharge, he became a service representative at IBM for 31 years, where he was recognized for his excellent problem-solving skills. By applying those same skills to his home life, Jim became an avid, self-taught gardener, frequently winning prizes at the Geauga County Fair for his butternut squash. He taught himself woodworking; among his many projects, he crafted clocks that he gifted to family and friends over the years. Jim was an enthusiastic amateur bowler, playing with several singles and couples leagues throughout his decades of play. Bowling highlights include achieving a perfect 300 game, serving as league secretary, teaching his son Jospeh to play, and sharing his love of bowling with his wife Joan. A quietly pious man who demonstrated his faith through actions rather than words, Jim was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church for 47 years. To his children, he passed along his values of a strong work ethic, fulfilling obligations, honesty, and showing up whenever needed without question. Jim’s legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren.

Friends and family received at ST. JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 16381 CHILLICOTHE RD, (RT 306), CHAGRIN FALLS, 44023 (2.5 MILES NORTH OF RT 422) on Friday, May 10, 2024 FROM 3:00-7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury OH 44065 at 11:00 AM (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment to follow at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon OH.
