Juanita Paula Weisel entered into eternal rest on August 5, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 26, 1931, she most recently lived in Houston, Texas, Aurora, Ohio and Solon, Ohio. Juanita is survived by her loving daughters Becky (Ed) Black of Millis, Massachusetts, Cindy (Cornell) Turcu of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Lisa Brown of Geneva, Ohio; her grandchildren Christopher Black, Jonathan Black, Carly (Doug) Horner, Sarah (Matthew) Foell, Jessica Brown and Alison (Josh) Powell; her great-grandchildren Eloise, Tripp and Harry; six nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law Jean Paar of Canton, Ohio.
Juanita is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years John; her parents John and Josephine Burrell; her sisters Leona and Zita; her brother Jack; and two nephews.
After graduating from Notre Dame College in Cleveland, Ohio, Juanita earned her Masters of Library Science from Case Western Reserve while working full time and raising a family. As Head Research Librarian at John Carroll University, she led the library’s change over from the Dewey Decimal System to the Library of Congress Classification System. While living in Taipei, Taiwan she worked as librarian at Taipei American School. After returning to Ohio, Juanita became Library Director as well as Learning Resources Director at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Later, Juanita became Head Librarian at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Once retiring to Houston, Texas, Juanita and John enjoyed their lifelong love of the arts and traveling.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Juanita at a later announced date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Juanita’s memory to the Cleveland Orchestra at https://www.clevelandorchestra.com.
