Laura Gottron Hess passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, surrounded by her family and dog (Chips) at the age of 67. She is survived by her Husband, Allan Michael Hess Jr., the love of her life for 45 years. Laura was born on August 30, 1958, to the late Bruce V. Gottron and late Dorothy L. Gottron (nee Clark). Raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio she was the youngest of 4 siblings, Bruce “Bee Gee” Gottron (Nancy), Walter “Wally” Gottron (Jasmine), and Margie Haas (Dale). Laura was a devoted Mother to her daughters, Erica Lastoria (Daniel) and Amanda Hess and a proud Grandma of 2 grandsons, Daylen and Trace Lastoria. She was a beloved cousin to many and an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Laura was a loyal employee of Progressive Insurance where she worked as a Data Steward for 47 years; being one of the first wave of hires when the internet was introduced to the now massive company in 1980. In her time at Progressive, she demonstrated her dedication and hard work daily and was recognized for her achievements consistently throughout her career.
At a young age she developed a deep love of nature and all living things. Laura had a very special relationship with animals and kept many pets over the years; whether she found them or they found her. She loved to travel and go on adventures on the road or simply taking walks in her backyard. Working in her gardens was one of her greatest joys. She spent countless hours tending to her flower beds at her home in Bainbridge Twp., OH for 27 years, and her previous residence in Bentleyville for 13 years.
Another of Laura's passions was spending time with her husband and daughters going to Solon Commons cruise nights and other car shows in their 1968 GTO red convertible. Laura was cherished for her gentle spirit and heart of gold that was filled with kindness, compassion, and generosity for family, friends, animals, and strangers alike. An angel on earth, her wings unseen now carry her amongst the heavens.
Relatives and friends are welcome to Laura's Celebration of Life at St. John Funeral Home, 16381 Chillicothe Rd., Chagrin Falls, OH, 44023, on Saturday, April 11 with calling hours between 2-4 pm followed by a closing service at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, it was Laura’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the Geauga County Dog Warden at 12513 Merritt Rd., Chardon, OH, 44024. Physical pet supply donation will be accepted at the service.
