Lola M Gergye

Lola Mary Gergye (nee Lazzaro), passed away December 24, 2025, at the age 99 1/2. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Gergye and brother, Harold Lazzaro as well as her parents, Sarah (nee Rush) and Joseph Lazzaro.

Loving mother of daughters, Janice Patten (David Moses), Judith (Kevin) Botham, and Joanna (Kurt) Kucharczyk; beloved sister to brother, retired Air Force Colonel, Joseph (Sandi) Lazzaro; devoted grandmother to Kandice Kucharczyk, and Benjamin Botham; devoted aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, cousin, and dear and loving friend to many.

The daughter of Vaudeville performers, Lola's musical talents include playing the mandolin as well as a beautiful singing voice. During her high school years, she was a member of the Spanish Club, a gym leader, Captain of the Girls Basketball team, Operetta, Chorus, and Girl Reserves, Fencing Club, and remained an active member of the Class of 1944 Brush High School Alumni. She attended college and attained a business degree and worked as an Executive Secretary to the Vice President at Union Commerce Bank in Cleveland. She married her beloved husband, John Gergye in 1952 and moved to Bedford, Ohio in 1957, raising her family and remained a resident until her passing.

She belonged to St. Pius X Catholic Church and was an active member of Our Lady of Hope Seniors and Auxiliary, past President of Bedford Seniors, Bedford Democratic Club, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees, Inc., Bedford Historical Society, Garden Club, 2001 Charter Member of World War II Memorial Society.

Lola enjoyed the art of crafting, and she shared her talents and gifts with family, friends, and organizations with beautifully made wreaths, gift baskets for baby showers and weddings, and flower arrangements. She loved everything Betty Boop and was recognized throughout town while driving her cherished purple Betty Boop decorated "Boop Mobile".

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Lola will be greatly missed.

Friends and family are welcome to St. John Funeral Home, 923 Broadway Ave, Bedford, OH 44146 on Saturday, August 15 from 1 P.M. – 4 P.M. for a Celebration of Life.
