Mary B. Spadaro (nee Turi), age 102, went home to her Heavenly Father on February 13,2022 to celebrate her 75th wedding anniversary with her precious Frank. Mary was born November 28, 1919 in the early morning hours, the day after Thanksgiving, in Johnstown, PA to immigrant parents, Rafael and Juliana (Kacsur) Turi, from whom she learned her strong work ethic and lifelong frugality.  She was the cherished younger sister of Frank (Essie), Stephen, and Alexander (Blanche) Turi, all predeceased, and the loving aunt of Judith Weaver, Raymond (Donna) Turi, and John (Sharon) Cerasoli, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt. In a chance meeting while waiting in line at the post office, World War II brought her together with her beloved Francesco (Frank) S. Spadaro, who was stationed with the Navy in Cleveland. Their union was celebrated in marriage on Valentine’s Day, 1947. They had an enduring friendship, deep mutual respect, and everlasting love which continued throughout their 60 years of married life until his passing in 2007. A member of The Greatest Generation, Mary was most proud of her Hungarian heritage. She is one of the few who survived two pandemics during their lifetime–the Spanish flu in her infancy and COVID-19 in her last years. Dancing and singing, especially Italian crooners, were her favorite delights. (She still swooned at the recollection as a young woman while waiting for the bus, of seeing Dean Martin on E. 9th Street in Cleveland with his dark, wavy hair, beautiful white teeth, and wearing a camel-colored coat.) Mary exhibited an innate talent for mental gymnastics. No one could mention a subject, any subject, for which she did not have a correlating song to sing or a play on words to adapt. Regardless of a gentleman’s age or marital status, with her ever-youthful outlook, she remained an inveterate flirt until the very end. She steadfastly lived on her terms into advanced maturity and did it her way (she would have jumped on that one). Mary Barbara Ann Turi Spadaro will be missed by all who knew her. Isten áldása veled Mária! Aludj az arkangyalokkal. Visitation one hour prior to Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, February 18, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary of the Woods Chapel, 35755 Detroit Road, Avon, OH.
