Nicolina (nee Romito) Spikowski, age 99, of Bedford, passed away on December 4, 2021. She was born on January 20, 1922 to the late Michele and Letizia (nee Fimiani) Romito. Nicky was only 4 years old when she started first grade, one of the many life experiences she could still sharply recall in her later years. A graduate of Bedford High School, Nicky was employed at Jack and Heintz before becoming a devoted homemaker and mother.  Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, playing cards, telling stories, visiting with family and friends, and keeping up with politics and current events. She took up watercolor painting at age 55, favoring portraits and landscapes, many of which grace the homes of dear family and friends. She helped carry on a decades-long tradition of a July 4th picnic to celebrate the family’s rich Italian heritage. Her pizzelles, biscotti, spaghetti and meatballs were savored by many.  She deeply loved, and was loved by, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Nicky had a heart of gold, a wonderful sense of humor and always welcomed family and friends with open arms. She was the matriarch of the family, quick to answer the phone for someone in need, and she exuded warmth to all. She was passionate about her Catholic faith.  Nicky will be forever remembered by her children, Kenneth (Lucinda), Janet (William Ujcic), William (Alison Ackerman) and James (Joanne); grandchildren, Mary, Jennifer (Thomas Chung), Lauren (Alvah Aldrich), Jim, Carolyn, Jane, Katherine (Brandon Gibbins), Gary and Daniel; and great grandchildren, Samurai, Washington, Maximus, Hannah, Atticus, Skyler, Cadence, Lillian, Juliette, Ella and Theodore.  The kids treasure memories of magnolia tree climbing, sleepovers, art lessons, card games, the backyard swing and vegetable garden. She made each feel as though they were her favorite and spoiled them with her time, love, knowledge and attention. She was the absolute best Great Nana.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Romito, a host of nieces and nephews and dear friends. Nicky was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Spikowski; brothers, Victor, Anthony, Herman, Joseph, Alfonso and Roland; sister, Mary Hlavach; and many beloved in- laws. Visitation will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Bedford followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery, Northfield.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve.  (St. John Funeral Home of Bedford, 440-232-1155)
