Philip H Brasfield, Jr. (Phil) died peacefully in his home in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Born on May 5, 1934, in McComb Mississippi to Alice (Magee) and Herman Brasfield, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brasfield of McComb, MS, and Mr. and Mrs. G. Wood Magee of Monticello, MS. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sally Brasfield Simmons. He is survived by his daughter Julia Wood Brasfield, grandsons Tyler Webb Simmons and Connor Philip Simmons and his pets, Letta and Lucy.
Phil grew up in Woodville, Mississippi. He graduated from The Webb School, located in Bell Buckle, TN, in 1952. He attended college at Washington and Lee University located in Lexington, VA, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1956. Phil proudly served in the US Navy for four years as a Naval Airborne Intelligence Officer, honorably discharged in 1960. After starting out in banking, he worked in the investment business for 25 years. He was active in The Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland, volunteering at the Adult Rehabilitation Center. He joined Alcoholics Anonymous in 1990 which “saved my life.” After retirement, Phil joined the Peace Corps in 1999, serving for two years with the National Trust of Slovakia in Bratislava, Slovakia. After completing his service, he returned to Slovakia for several winters, continuing his volunteer efforts.
Phil was “addicted” to golf and enjoyed playing at The Country Club in Pepper Pike, Ohio, where he was a member for over 50 years. He would often finish a round and humbly share with his daughters that he had once again shot equal to or less than his age – a feat he managed more than 100 times.
Phil enjoyed traveling, sharing time with great friends and spending time with family.
